COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.) in Renewable and Clean Energy at Wright State University is designed to build advanced technical expertise in sustainable energy systems while developing strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Students must also complete at least 3 credit hours in mathematics, typically through advanced engineering mathematics courses. The program includes core coursework in advanced thermodynamics, which can be selected from several institutions, along with three specialized renewable and clean energy courses covering topics such as solar, wind, fuel cells, hydrogen systems, and energy conversion. In addition, students take two elective graduate-level courses from approved disciplines including engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, environmental sciences, mathematics, or statistics, allowing flexibility to tailor the degree to specific interests. The program offers two pathways: a thesis option, requiring a research thesis and oral defense with 9 credit hours of thesis work, and a non-thesis option, which includes additional coursework and an independent study component. Collaborative opportunities are also available through partner institutions such as the University of Dayton and the Air Force Institute of Technology, where eligible courses can count toward degree requirements.
