COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Wright State University is a 120-credit-hour professional degree designed to prepare students for careers as registered nurses and future health care leaders. The curriculum combines foundational sciences, general education, and specialized nursing courses to develop the knowledge and clinical skills required for modern nursing practice. Students begin with prerequisite coursework in psychology, biology, organic chemistry, anatomy, microbiology, sociology, statistics, English composition, and introductory nursing concepts. These courses provide a strong understanding of human behavior, biological systems, communication, and scientific reasoning. As students progress, they complete advanced nursing courses covering pharmacology, pathophysiology, family nursing, evidence-based practice, mental health nursing, obstetrics, pediatrics, adult health care, critical care, public health, and leadership. Extensive clinical experiences and skills laboratories allow students to apply classroom learning in real-world health care settings and gain experience caring for patients across the lifespan. The program culminates with leadership and preceptorship experiences that prepare students for the transition into professional nursing practice. Upon graduation, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN examination required for registered nurse licensure. The program meets the educational requirements for RN licensure in Ohio and fulfills educational requirements for licensure in other U.S. states, although additional state-specific requirements may apply. Program outcomes focus on developing well-rounded nursing professionals who integrate arts, sciences, and nursing knowledge into patient care. Graduates learn to provide safe, high-quality care, apply evidence-based practice, utilize health information technology, understand health care policies and regulations, communicate effectively within interdisciplinary teams, promote health and disease prevention, and demonstrate professionalism, integrity, social justice, and respect for human dignity. They are prepared to function as baccalaureate-level nurse generalists capable of caring for diverse populations in hospitals, community agencies, clinics, public health organizations, and other health care settings while adapting to the complexity and evolving demands of the nursing profession.
