COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Sports Science at Wright State University is designed to prepare students for careers in exercise, fitness, health promotion, and allied health fields by studying how the human body responds to physical activity and training. The program integrates scientific knowledge from exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor behavior, and sport psychology to help students understand how movement, exercise, and physical conditioning affect human performance and long-term health. Students in the Health and Fitness Concentration are prepared for nationally recognized professional certifications such as the National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) or Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS), which are widely valued in fitness, coaching, and strength training careers. In addition, students must complete certification in First Aid and CPR through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, ensuring they are trained in essential safety and emergency response skills. The Sports Medicine Concentration is designed for students interested in advanced healthcare pathways and includes a required Allied Health Capstone Project, where students design a culminating academic and professional experience. This capstone also prepares students for graduate school by guiding them through key steps such as selecting programs, understanding admission requirements, building resumes, and developing interview skills. Admission to the program requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and successful completion of an introductory course with a grade of C or higher, such as KNH 2410 for the Health and Fitness track or ATR 2610 for the Sports Medicine track. Overall, the Sports Science degree combines classroom learning, laboratory experience, certification preparation, and applied training to build strong scientific and professional foundations. Graduates are equipped for careers in fitness training, strength and conditioning, sports performance, rehabilitation support, and other health-related fields, while also being well prepared to pursue graduate study in athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or other allied health professions.
