COURSE CURRICULUM
The core courses in the Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Wright State University provide a comprehensive scientific understanding of how people think, feel, learn, behave, and interact with the world. The curriculum is organized around three major areas. First, students study basic psychological processes, including cognition and learning, conditioning and learning, perception, and behavioral neuroscience. These subjects explore how the brain processes information, how memory and thinking function, how individuals learn from experience, how people perceive their environment, and how biological and neurological systems influence behavior and mental experiences. Second, students examine the integration of these processes through courses such as abnormal psychology, personality psychology, developmental psychology, and social psychology. These courses help students understand mental health disorders, individual differences in personality, psychological changes across the lifespan, and the influence of social environments on attitudes, beliefs, and behavior. Third, students learn how psychological principles are applied in real-world settings through courses in industrial-organizational psychology, engineering psychology, tests and measures, and health psychology. These areas focus on improving workplace performance and satisfaction, designing products and systems that align with human capabilities, evaluating psychological assessment tools, and understanding the relationship between mental and physical health. Together, these courses build strong analytical, research, communication, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills that are valued in many professions. Graduates gain a broad understanding of human behavior and are prepared for careers in human resources, business, marketing, healthcare, research, social services, education, user experience design, and government. The program also provides an excellent foundation for graduate study in psychology, counseling, clinical psychology, neuroscience, industrial-organizational psychology, public health, law, or related fields. The scientific approach of the B.S. degree makes it particularly attractive for students seeking careers that combine behavioral science, research, technology, healthcare, and evidence-based decision-making.
