COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Wright State University is a comprehensive 120-credit engineering program designed to prepare students for careers in mechanical design, manufacturing, aerospace, energy systems, robotics, automation, and advanced technology industries. Admission to the major requires at least 24 college credit hours, a minimum 2.25 GPA, and grades of C or higher in key courses such as chemistry, physics, engineering mathematics, programming, and engineering design. The curriculum combines a strong foundation in calculus, differential equations, physics, chemistry, engineering programming, and communication with specialized mechanical engineering subjects including statics, dynamics, materials science, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, system dynamics, instrumentation, and mechanical design. Students can specialize through tracks in Aerospace, Manufacturing, Mechanics, or Thermal Fluids, allowing them to tailor the degree to specific career interests. The program emphasizes practical learning through laboratories, engineering projects, and a two-semester capstone design experience where students solve real-world engineering problems. Graduates develop the ability to analyze complex engineering systems, design innovative solutions, conduct experiments, interpret technical data, communicate effectively, work in multidisciplinary teams, and apply ethical and professional standards.
