COURSE CURRICULUM

The Integrated Human Services, BS program prepares students for careers in human service agencies supporting individuals with disabilities, mental health challenges, homelessness, substance use issues, and involvement in the justice system by combining academic study with practical field experience. Admission requires at least 15 college credit hours with a 2.35 GPA or direct entry from high school with a 3.00 GPA or strong ACT/SAT scores, and students must maintain a minimum grade of C in professional courses and complete a 400-hour internship with at least a 2.50 GPA and completed prerequisites. The program develops competencies in empathy, ethics, diversity, communication, counseling foundations, disability studies, case management, career assessment, community resources, and rehabilitation practices, while also covering key topics such as legislation affecting disability rights (ADA, IDEA, Section 504, HIPAA), substance abuse, mental health, and social systems. Students learn to assess client needs, coordinate services, and apply multidisciplinary approaches to physical, psychological, vocational, and social support. The curriculum includes rehabilitation core courses, psychology and sociology electives, and a structured internship that provides real-world experience in human service settings. It also emphasizes professional development, including networking, career planning, and preparation for graduate study. A combined-degree pathway allows eligible students to begin a master’s in counseling while completing their bachelor’s, accelerating their path into advanced practice roles. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in counseling support, rehabilitation services, case management, community outreach, and social service organizations, or to continue into graduate programs such as clinical mental health counseling, occupational therapy, or related human service professions focused on improving quality of life for individuals and communities.
