COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Sciences B.S. program is a multidisciplinary degree designed to prepare students for careers in healthcare, health promotion, and advanced graduate study by building strong foundational knowledge in science, human health, and healthcare systems. The program focuses on developing core competencies in health promotion, disease prevention, patient care, and understanding the biological and social factors that influence individual and community health. Students are also trained to analyze the ethical, legal, regulatory, cultural, and economic aspects of the U.S. healthcare system while learning to work effectively in interprofessional healthcare teams. Admission into the program requires completion of introductory coursework, a foundational allied health course, and a minimum GPA, ensuring students are academically prepared for the rigor of the major. The curriculum includes a strong science-based core with courses in anatomy, physiology, chemistry, biology, kinesiology, exercise physiology, motor development, nutrition, and health-related pharmacology, along with emergency response and therapeutic exercise training. A key feature of the program is its flexibility through multiple concentration options, including Pre-Athletic Training, Pre-Occupational Therapy, Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Physician Assistant, and Pre-Sport and Rehabilitation Medicine, allowing students to tailor their studies toward specific healthcare career paths. Each concentration includes advanced science and health courses such as biochemistry, microbiology, organic chemistry, neuroscience, physics, and genetics depending on the chosen track. Students also gain practical experience through practicum work and applied learning in clinical or health-related settings. In addition, the program emphasizes professional development, including preparation for graduate school applications, resume building, communication skills, and interview readiness. General education courses in communication, psychology, sociology, and mathematics further strengthen critical thinking and analytical abilities. Graduates are well prepared for entry into graduate or professional programs in medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, athletic training, and other healthcare fields.
