COURSE CURRICULUM

The Exercise Science B.S. program is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary degree designed to prepare students to improve human health, fitness, and overall well-being through the scientific study of physical activity and the body’s response to exercise. It integrates knowledge from biology, chemistry, physics, physiology, psychology, and kinesiology to help students understand how exercise influences health and how it can be used to prevent, manage, and treat chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and other health conditions. The program combines classroom learning with extensive hands-on, supervised practical experiences that allow students to apply scientific principles in real-world fitness, clinical, and wellness environments. Students are trained to conduct fitness assessments, analyze health behaviors and risk factors, design safe and effective individualized exercise programs, and motivate individuals and groups to adopt healthier lifestyles. A strong emphasis is placed on ethical practice, cultural competence, leadership, and working effectively with diverse populations. The curriculum also prepares students for professional certification exams such as ACSM Exercise Physiologist and NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), which are highly valued in the fitness and health industry. The degree includes a wide range of core science courses, kinesiology and health classes, and specialized training in areas like exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, nutrition, motor learning, and sports psychology. A major component of the program is experiential learning through a practicum and a 400-hour internship, where students gain direct professional experience in real settings. Graduates also complete a certification exam as part of their training. Career opportunities include roles in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, sports performance facilities, universities, corporate wellness programs, and community health organizations.
