COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Acting at Wright State University is a highly selective conservatory-style program designed for students seeking professional careers in acting for theatre, television, film, and musical theatre. The program combines intensive performance training with a liberal arts education, helping students develop both artistic excellence and a broader understanding of society that enriches their work as performers. Students receive hands-on experience from their first year through participation in productions, films, musicals, workshops, and performance opportunities. Faculty members are experienced professionals actively working as actors, directors, choreographers, and educators. Graduates gain the skills necessary to succeed in auditions, professional productions, and the entertainment industry. Learning outcomes include mastery of acting techniques, professional audition skills, understanding of theatre and musical theatre history, knowledge of industry business practices, and experience performing diverse roles. The degree requires 120 credit hours and includes 36 credit hours of general education courses covering writing, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The major core curriculum focuses on acting, movement, speech, theatre production, makeup, and performance training. Students then choose between two concentrations. The Acting concentration emphasizes acting, voice and speech, movement, singing for actors, theatre history, literature, and professional career preparation. The Musical Theatre concentration adds extensive training in singing, ballet, jazz, modern dance, tap dance, music theory, piano skills, musical theatre performance, and musical theatre history. Throughout the program, students progressively develop performance skills through advanced acting, movement, speech, and singing courses. Senior students benefit from professional showcases and career workshops that connect them with casting directors and industry professionals. The program's strong practical focus, experienced faculty, and extensive performance opportunities prepare graduates for careers in regional theatre, Broadway productions, touring companies, television, film, and other areas of the performing arts industry.
