COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work at Wright State University is an interdisciplinary, practice-focused program designed to prepare students for generalist social work across a wide range of social service settings. The curriculum emphasizes professional competence, ethical practice, and the application of social work knowledge to individuals, families, groups, and communities, with a strong foundation in social justice and empowerment-based approaches. Admission into the major requires completion of Social Work 2700 (Introduction to Social Work) or an equivalent transfer course with a grade of C or better before beginning the program, along with completion of prerequisite coursework by the summer prior to entry into the fall cohort. Students must also submit a formal application to the department, typically due by February 1, and meet all outlined academic requirements as part of the selection process. The program provides structured guidance through advising resources, degree audits, and transfer evaluation tools such as Transferology and the Ohio Transfer Module, helping students determine how prior coursework applies toward degree requirements. Once admitted, students progress through a sequenced curriculum that builds foundational knowledge in human behavior, social welfare systems, and community practice, while also preparing them for field education and real-world application in agencies and organizations. The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), ensuring national standards of quality and making graduates eligible for licensure as Licensed Social Workers (LSW) in Ohio upon completion of additional state requirements. Students are also supported through advising in the College of Health, Education, and Human Services and the Department of Social Work, with opportunities to review application materials before submission to ensure readiness.
