COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Public Health at Wright State University is an interdisciplinary, practice-oriented degree designed to prepare students for careers in health education, community health promotion, advocacy, and population health improvement, as well as for graduate study in public health and related fields. The program focuses on developing strong communication skills for explaining public health information to diverse audiences, using data and research to evaluate health issues, and designing effective messages and interventions that influence health behaviors. Students also learn to analyze how biological, behavioral, environmental, and social factors interact to shape population health outcomes, giving them a broad systems-level understanding of health and disease. A key strength of the program is its emphasis on applied learning through internships, collaborations with local health agencies, and community-based projects that allow students to gain real-world experience in health promotion and policy environments. The curriculum includes foundational courses such as global health, disease prevention, community health improvement, behavior change interventions, and health policy, along with a required capstone project that demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge to real public health challenges. Students also build analytical skills through coursework in statistics, epidemiology, and data management, which are essential for evidence-based decision-making in public health practice. In addition, students must complete supporting coursework in biology, chemistry, communication, sociology, and psychology to understand the scientific and social dimensions of health. Electives in communication, data science, geography, and statistics further strengthen career readiness. Graduates are well prepared for entry-level roles in public health departments, hospitals, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and community health programs, or for advanced study such as a Master of Public Health (MPH).
