COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics at Wright State University is a flexible 120-credit-hour degree that provides a strong foundation in core areas of mathematics including calculus, algebra, analysis, geometry, statistics, and computing while allowing students to customize their studies through a wide range of electives. Students develop advanced problem-solving abilities, mathematical reasoning, proof-writing skills, and the ability to communicate mathematical ideas effectively. The program offers two concentration options: a Mathematics Concentration, which includes advanced courses such as Calculus III, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Real Variables, Modern Algebra, and mathematics electives, and a Dual Major Concentration that allows students to combine mathematics with another academic discipline. The curriculum includes general education requirements in writing, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and global and inclusive learning. Students also complete computer programming coursework and may take related courses outside mathematics, providing interdisciplinary knowledge and career flexibility. Graduates gain the ability to construct and evaluate rigorous mathematical arguments, solve complex quantitative problems, and apply mathematical thinking in various professional settings. Those pursuing Mathematics Education develop teaching approaches aligned with educational standards and best practices. High-achieving students may participate in an Honors Program, while ambitious students can accelerate their education through a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree pathway, allowing up to nine graduate credits to count toward both degrees. Career opportunities include data analysis, statistics, finance, actuarial science, software development, education, operations research, business analytics, government, and graduate study.
