COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program at Wichita State University is a 33-credit-hour interdisciplinary graduate degree designed to integrate engineering, computing, and business management to prepare students for leadership roles in technical industries. The curriculum is structured to ensure breadth across engineering/computing courses, management courses, and a selected concentration, along with electives and applied learning experiences that connect academic theory with real-world practice. Students must complete a minimum of 6 credit hours each in engineering/computing and management areas, select at least one specialized concentration worth 6 credit hours, and complete 15 credit hours of electives, with at least 15 credit hours coming from IME (Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering) coursework at the 500+ level. The program also requires an applied learning component, which may include courses such as IME 872 or approved experiential learning options like IME 734, IME 767, IME 764, IME 664, or cooperative education, ensuring that students gain hands-on experience in professional environments. A colloquium (IME 777) and professional integrity training are also part of the core expectations, and students must submit a plan of study during their first year, ensuring academic direction and proper course sequencing, with at least 21 credit hours completed at the 700 level or higher. The program offers multiple concentration pathways, allowing students to tailor their degree toward specific career goals such as Data Analytics, Operations Research and Systems Engineering, Production and Supply Chain Analytics, Quality and Reliability, Manufacturing Engineering and Automation, and Human Systems Engineering. These concentrations include advanced courses in machine learning, artificial intelligence, optimization, supply chain systems, robotics, quality engineering, ergonomics, and industrial systems design. Overall, the MEM degree is built to develop professionals who can combine technical engineering expertise with strategic management capabilities, enabling them to lead complex projects, optimize industrial systems, and make data-driven decisions in sectors such as manufacturing, aerospace, logistics, healthcare systems, and advanced technology industries.
