COURSE CURRICULUM

The MBA in Human Resource Management at Wichita State University is a 36-credit-hour AACSB-accredited graduate program that combines core business education with specialized human resource management training. Students from non-business backgrounds may be required to complete prerequisite courses in Business Calculus and Introductory Business Statistics, along with preparatory coursework in accounting, finance, marketing, management, and economics if deficiencies are identified. Equivalent credit may be granted for previous coursework, allowing some students to reduce foundation requirements. The Human Resource Management concentration is designed to prepare future leaders to effectively manage talent, workforce development, employee relations, compensation systems, and organizational performance in a rapidly changing business environment. Building upon the MBA foundation, the program develops expertise in strategic human resource practices that align employee management with organizational objectives and long-term business success. All students complete a common MBA core that includes Business Decision Making and Analysis or Marketing Research, Law and Ethics for Business, Managerial Finance, Organizational Behavior, and Advanced Strategic Management, which serves as the capstone course completed during the final semester. Additional required concentration courses include Behavioral Economics and Managerial Decisions, Operations Management, Management Information Systems, and International Business and Competitiveness, providing students with a broad understanding of managerial decision-making, global business operations, and technology-driven organizations. Students then select three specialized human resource courses from areas such as Selection, Rewards, Talent Development, Human Resource Analytics, and Strategic Human Resource Management. These advanced courses focus on employee recruitment and selection strategies, compensation and benefits systems, workforce training and development, data-driven human resource decision-making, and the strategic role of HR in achieving organizational goals. The curriculum also incorporates applied learning opportunities that allow students to connect classroom concepts with real-world business and workforce challenges. Graduates develop leadership, analytical, communication, and strategic planning skills that are highly valued in modern organizations. The program prepares students for careers in human resource management, talent acquisition, employee development, compensation and benefits administration, workforce analytics, organizational consulting, labor relations, training management, and executive leadership positions across private corporations, government agencies, healthcare organizations, nonprofit institutions, and multinational companies. By combining advanced business knowledge with specialized HR expertise, the MBA in Human Resource Management equips graduates to lead people-focused strategies that drive organizational success.
