COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Accountancy (MACC) program at Wichita State University is designed to provide advanced accounting education while ensuring students develop a strong foundation in business and management principles. Degree requirements vary depending on a student’s undergraduate background, but all candidates must complete a minimum of 30 graduate credit hours beyond the bachelor’s degree. At least 15 of these hours must be accounting courses numbered 800 or higher, and a total of 21 credit hours must be completed in graduate courses numbered 800 or above. The program generally assumes students have earned an undergraduate business degree with an accounting major equivalent to Wichita State University’s curriculum. Students lacking specific prerequisite coursework may be required to complete foundational undergraduate courses covering financial accounting, managerial accounting, intermediate accounting, accounting information systems, cost accounting, taxation, data analytics, advanced financial accounting, auditing, economics, finance, management, marketing, business law, operations management, information systems, international business, statistics, algebra, and business calculus. These prerequisites collectively provide a comprehensive understanding of accounting and business operations, totaling 73 credit hours. The graduate MACC curriculum consists of 30 credit hours focused on advanced accounting knowledge and professional skills. Required courses include Financial Accounting and Reporting: Contemporary Issues, Management Control Systems, Tax Research and Selected Topics, Advanced Auditing, and Advanced Data Analytics for Accountants, each worth three credit hours. In addition, students must complete nine credit hours of graduate electives outside the accounting discipline to broaden their business perspective and six additional graduate elective credit hours that may be selected from accounting or non-accounting fields. This flexible structure allows students to tailor their education according to career goals and professional interests.
