COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering at Wichita State University requires a minimum of 128 credit hours for graduation, including 71 credit hours of major coursework completed with at least a 2.0 GPA. Students must successfully complete all prerequisite courses with grades that generate at least 2.0 credit points per credit hour. To tailor their education to career interests, students select approved electives in mechanical design, manufacturing, thermal systems, and energy systems design. Elective options include robotics and control, autonomous vehicles, finite element analysis, composite materials, thermodynamics II, energy and sustainability, computational fluid dynamics, HVAC design, fluid machinery, and advanced thermal system design. These electives allow students to specialize in areas such as automation, sustainable energy, manufacturing technologies, and advanced mechanical systems. The program emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application, preparing graduates to solve complex engineering challenges in industries including aerospace, automotive, energy, manufacturing, robotics, and advanced technology sectors. Through a combination of rigorous technical coursework, laboratory training, design projects, and specialized electives, students develop the analytical, problem-solving, and engineering design skills required for professional success and further study in mechanical engineering and related fields.
