COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Industrial Engineering at Wichita State University requires 125 credit hours for graduation and provides comprehensive training in engineering analysis, manufacturing systems, operations research, data analytics, ergonomics, quality control, and systems optimization. Students may customize their studies through 19 credit hours of technical electives, allowing specialization in systems engineering, supply chain and analytics, or manufacturing, robotics, and automation. All prerequisite courses must be completed with grades equivalent to at least 2.0 credit points per credit hour. In addition to meeting General Education and College of Engineering requirements, students complete a strong foundation in mathematics and science, including Calculus I and II, Linear Algebra, Engineering Probability and Statistics, General Chemistry, and Physics for Scientists. The major curriculum develops technical and analytical skills through courses such as Introduction to Programming, Engineering Graphics, Engineering Economy, Manufacturing Methods and Materials, Work Systems, Descriptive Analytics, Industrial Ergonomics, Operations Research I and II, Production Systems, Statistical Quality Control, Information Systems, Facilities Planning and Design, and Systems Simulation. Students also gain practical experience through laboratory courses and a two-semester senior design sequence consisting of Industrial Engineering Design I and II, where they apply engineering principles to solve real-world industrial challenges. The program emphasizes the design, improvement, and management of integrated systems involving people, materials, information, equipment, and energy. Through track-based and additional technical electives, students can focus on career areas such as supply chain management, logistics, business analytics, manufacturing engineering, robotics, automation, systems optimization, and decision-making.
