COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Art – Studio Art: Print Media Concentration at Wichita State University is a 120-credit-hour professional degree designed for students who want to develop advanced artistic, technical and creative skills in printmaking while preparing for careers as professional artists, educators, designers or creative professionals. The program requires completion of 34–35 credit hours of General Education along with 86 credit hours in art and art history coursework, and students must earn a grade of C or higher in all major courses while maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA within the major. The curriculum begins with foundation studies in drawing, two-dimensional and three-dimensional design, and introduction to art and design, followed by a comprehensive art history sequence that includes introductory surveys, contemporary art studies and advanced upper-level coursework. Students gain broad exposure to multiple artistic disciplines through introductory courses in photography, life drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture, along with digital studio or digital 3-D technology training. Advanced studio coursework emphasizes professional development, interdisciplinary learning and presentation skills through seminars and specialized studio classes. The Print Media concentration focuses on mastering printmaking processes through courses such as intaglio, lithography, silkscreen, relief printing and intermediate printmaking studio experiences. Students further refine their artistic voice through two semesters of Advanced Printmaking, where they create sophisticated original work and build a professional portfolio. The degree culminates with a Studio Art Senior Project and a Senior Exhibition, providing students with opportunities to showcase their creative achievements publicly and demonstrate readiness for professional practice or graduate study. Supported by large studio spaces, modern technology and gallery resources, the program combines artistic exploration, technical expertise and applied learning experiences, helping graduates develop the creative, critical-thinking and professional skills needed for success in the contemporary art world and related creative industries.
