COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Human Resource Management at Wichita State University requires a minimum of 120 credit hours and prepares students for professional careers in workforce management, employee development, organizational leadership, and talent strategy. In addition to completing university General Education requirements, students must satisfy the requirements of the AACSB-accredited W. Frank Barton School of Business, including 27 credit hours of BBA core business courses and 20 credit hours of advanced standing business requirements. The human resource management major consists of specialized coursework designed to develop expertise in managing people and organizational performance. Required courses include Fundamentals of Human Resource Management, which introduces key HR functions and practices; Employment Law, which examines legal issues affecting employers and employees; Talent Acquisition, focusing on recruitment and selection strategies; Performance Management and Incentives, which explores employee evaluation, motivation, and compensation systems; and Learning in Organizations, which emphasizes employee training, professional development, and organizational learning. Students also complete six credit hours of major electives selected from advanced management courses such as High Performance Leadership, Designing Successful Organizations, Building Remarkable Teams, Change Management, and Managing in Diverse Organizations. These courses help students strengthen leadership abilities, organizational effectiveness skills, teamwork strategies, and diversity management competencies. With advisor approval, students may also pursue experiential learning opportunities through Cooperative Education, Independent Study projects, or specialized seminars on selected human resource topics. Open electives allow students to customize their degree and reach the 120-credit-hour graduation requirement while exploring additional areas of interest. The program requires all majors to contain at least 12 unduplicated credit hours and prepares graduates to address workforce challenges related to hiring, training, employee engagement, performance improvement, compensation, legal compliance, and organizational development. Through a combination of business education, human resource expertise, leadership training, and applied learning opportunities, students gain the skills needed for careers as human resource specialists, recruiters, talent acquisition coordinators, training and development professionals, employee relations specialists, compensation analysts, and HR managers. The degree also provides a strong foundation for professional certifications and graduate study in business administration, management, organizational leadership, and human resource management.
