COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Business Administration at Wichita State University’s Barton School of Business is a 120-credit undergraduate degree built on a structured combination of general education, business core requirements, and specialized upper-level coursework. Students begin with approximately 34–35 credit hours of general education and then complete 47 credit hours of required business foundation work, which includes the Barton School’s BBA core requirements (27 credit hours) and advanced standing requirements (20 credit hours). These foundational courses establish competencies in areas such as accounting, economics, management, marketing, analytics, and decision-making, ensuring students develop a broad understanding of how organizations operate. Within the major itself, students take targeted upper-level courses such as Consumer Behavior (MKT 405), Building Remarkable Teams (MGMT 463), and Human Resource Management (HRM 466), or alternatively Labor Economics (ECON 660), depending on their academic or career focus. Students also choose an international business elective from options like International Management, International Marketing, International Economics and Business, International Financial Management, or Successful Negotiation, providing a global business perspective. In addition, the program requires 9 credit hours of directed electives drawn from upper-division business disciplines such as finance, entrepreneurship, business analytics, economics, management information systems, accounting, hospitality, or real estate, with the requirement that students diversify across at least two areas. The degree is completed with additional open electives to reach the 120-credit-hour total, allowing flexibility for minors, certificates, or exploratory study. A key structural requirement is that students must complete at least 12 unduplicated credit hours within the major to ensure meaningful specialization rather than course overlap. Overall, the program combines a strong business foundation with targeted specialization, international exposure, and flexible elective space, preparing graduates for careers in corporate management, entrepreneurship, consulting, finance, human resources, and global business environments.
