COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures (MCLL) with a French specialization at Wichita State University is designed for students who want to develop advanced proficiency in the French language while gaining a deep understanding of French-speaking cultures, literature, and global perspectives. The program offers a comprehensive language-learning experience that strengthens speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, preparing students to communicate effectively in both professional and international settings. Students also have the opportunity to become qualified French teachers for PreK–12 schools through the College of Education, providing an additional pathway into the education profession. A key feature of the program is its emphasis on experiential learning, including study-abroad opportunities that allow students to immerse themselves in French-speaking environments and gain firsthand cultural experiences. Students can further enhance their language abilities through informal conversation groups, where they practice French in a supportive and interactive setting. The program also provides access to the extensive resources of the Music and Languages Innovation Center, which offers modern technology, language-learning tools, and academic support to help students achieve fluency and confidence. In addition to language proficiency, students develop valuable skills such as intercultural communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and global awareness. These abilities are highly valued in today’s international workforce and can be applied across many industries. Graduates are well prepared to pursue advanced degrees in fields such as language studies, education, international relations, linguistics, and literature.
