COURSE CURRICULUM

For the BFA in Dance, a minimum of 128 credit hours are required. The required credit hours include 86 hours in dance and 12 hours in supportive courses. Dance Technique (minimum 32 credit hours, with at least 16 in ballet and 16 in contemporary). Required courses include: DANC 3010, DANC 3020 Theories of Contemporary Dance (3 hours); DANC 1220 Improvisation (2 hours); DANC 2000 Applied Dance (2-4 hours); DANC 2250, DANC 3250, DANC 4250 Choreography (8 hours); DANC 2520 Introduction to Dance Studio Operations (3 hours); DANC 3150, DANC 3160 Performance Techniques (6 hours); DANC 3210, DANC 3220 Dance Repertory (3 hours); DANC 4400 Dance Pedagogy (3 hours); DANC 4210 BFA Capstone (3 hours); DANC 4900 Senior Seminar (3 hours); MUSC 1003 Fundamentals of Music for Dancers (3 hours); THEA 1080 or DANC 1050, 1090, 1100 Studio Theatre or Applied Dance (3 hours). Additional advanced-level coursework in technique, up to 12 credit hours. Supportive courses include BIOL 1400 or PHYS 1070 Anatomy for the Arts or Descriptive Physics (3 hours); WRIT 2072 Writing for Change (3 hours); MNGT 2100 Management Theory and Practices (3 hours); EDUC 2000 Beginning Practicum in Education (2 hours); EDUC 2300 Child and Adolescent Development (3 hours); and 1 hour of EDUC 2800 Foundations of Education.
