COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Engineering Management at the University of North Texas is an interdisciplinary STEM-designated program designed to prepare students for leadership roles that require both advanced engineering expertise and strong management skills. The program responds to growing employer demand for professionals who can manage engineering projects, lead teams, analyze risks, and make strategic business decisions while maintaining deep technical knowledge. Students can specialize in Energy, Construction Management, or General Engineering Management, allowing them to tailor their education toward their career interests and industry needs. The curriculum combines coursework in engineering, management, entrepreneurship, and the chosen concentration area, helping students develop practical leadership, analytical, and operational skills. Open to students with backgrounds in engineering, computer science, or related fields, the program also offers opportunities to work with faculty on advanced research topics such as structural resilience, logistics and supply chain management, thermal management, green lubrication development, nanoscale materials, and atmospheric corrosion of structural materials. Graduates are trained to design experiments using Six Sigma methodologies, manage engineering projects and their societal impacts, engage in entrepreneurship, and apply statistical and risk analysis techniques in industrial settings. Students also gain marketable skills in project management, business model development, human resource management, and product and process optimization. The program supports many students through teaching and research assistantships that provide stipends, possible tuition support, and eligibility for in-state tuition rates, along with scholarship opportunities offered by the College of Engineering. The Energy concentration prepares students for careers in sustainability and alternative energy, while the Construction Management concentration addresses strong workforce demand in Texas, one of the leading states for construction management jobs. Faculty and student researchers collaborate on solving complex industrial challenges using advanced science, mathematics, and emerging technologies. Career demand for engineering management professionals continues to grow rapidly, with regional job postings for master’s-level engineering managers increasing significantly in recent years. Coursework includes project supervision, technology innovation, renewable energy, construction risk management, business ethics, and entrepreneurship and venture management.
