COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) at the University of North Texas provides advanced professional training designed to prepare students for leadership roles in government, nonprofit organizations, and public service agencies. The program is distinguished by its faculty, who bring extensive professional experience in public administration, hold leadership positions in professional associations, and contribute to the field through widely published research in leading academic journals and books. The program is structured to accommodate students at different stages of their careers, with flexible pathways based on experience level, including pre-career (40 hours with an internship requirement), in-career (39 hours), and mid-career (36 hours) options, allowing for a tailored academic experience. Financial support is a significant strength of the program, with approximately $50,000 in annual scholarships available to qualified students. The curriculum focuses on timely and relevant issues in public administration, including city and county management, economic development, nonprofit leadership, and smart city technologies, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for modern governance challenges. Career outcomes are strong and diverse, with alumni working as city managers, budget and finance analysts, legislative liaisons, economic development administrators, nonprofit leaders, police chiefs, and human resource directors. Graduates are employed across a wide range of organizations, including municipal governments in the Dallas–Fort Worth region, public safety agencies, special districts, state and federal government bodies, private firms, and nonprofit organizations. Core coursework includes Leading and Managing Public Organizations, Managing Human Resources, Managing Financial Resources, Cultural Competency in Public Management, Financial Accountability in Government, and Public Administration and Society, equipping students with essential leadership, analytical, and administrative skills for effective public service.
