COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in New Media Art is an interdisciplinary graduate program that combines advanced studio practice, emerging technologies, and critical artistic research to prepare students for innovative careers in contemporary art and media industries. The program includes specialized graduate coursework focused on discipline-based studies, professional practices, and experimental topics that extend beyond traditional studio art boundaries, encouraging students to explore new concepts, technologies, and creative processes. All graduate students are provided with individual studio spaces in the new Art Annex, supporting intensive independent artistic development. Students also gain access to highly advanced creative facilities such as the CAVE, a modular exhibition and performance environment specifically designed for immersive video installations, virtual reality experiences, and time-based media art. Equipped with state-of-the-art audio and visual systems, theatrical grids, and nearly 360-degree seamless projection surfaces, the CAVE supports innovative artistic experimentation with emergent technologies. Additional facilities include the Lighting Studio, which features chroma green and white cycloramas, professional lighting systems, and a sound-isolation booth, as well as the Alcove Project Space for student exhibitions and multimedia installations. The New Media Art concentration encourages work across multiple disciplines and mediums, including expanded cinema, virtual world-building, neural network training, data-driven fashion design, light sculpture, soundscape composition, interactive video, crypto-art, projection mapping, and physical computing. Graduates are prepared for diverse career paths in higher education, museum work, entertainment, digital media, and professional arts practice. Career opportunities include teaching at colleges or K-12 schools, working as visual arts technicians, workshop leaders, multimedia developers, film editors, gaming directors, museum curators, technical support specialists, and entrepreneurs. Many graduates also maintain independent studio practices, participate in global art networks, and create exhibitions in fields such as performance art, video art, cyber art, mixed media, digital art, and crypto-art. Coursework such as Seminar in University Art Teaching, Professional Practices for the Studio Artist, Praxis: Rotating Topics, and M.F.A. Project courses supports both artistic growth and professional preparation.
