COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s in English at the University of North Texas offers students extensive opportunities to develop advanced writing, research, and literary analysis skills within a dynamic and supportive academic environment. Students can gain valuable professional editorial experience through positions with the department’s nationally recognized literary journal, American Literary Review, as well as the student-run North Texas Review, helping them build practical publishing and editing skills. Many students in the program have successfully published creative and scholarly work in respected national and international journals and magazines, including The New Yorker, Shakespeare, and SEL: Studies in English Literature, reflecting the strong mentorship and creative culture within the department. Students work closely with award-winning faculty members whose expertise spans a wide range of literary and creative fields and whose work appears in leading academic journals such as PMLA, College English, and Speculum, as well as prestigious literary publications including The Paris Review, Best American Poetry, and Best American Spiritual Writing. The program also provides numerous intellectual and creative engagement opportunities through speaker series and academic events such as the American Studies Colloquium, the Eighteenth- and Nineteenth-Century Studies Group, the Medieval and Renaissance Colloquium, and the Visiting Writers Series, where distinguished writers visit campus for readings and discussions with students. Graduate students also participate in a strong scholarly community through the Graduate Students in English Association, which hosts an annual conference attracting presenters from across the country.
