COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Event and Sport Management at the University of North Texas combines classroom learning, professional preparation and extensive hands-on experience to prepare students for careers in recreation, sport and event industries. Students have access to several college-wide, departmental and program-specific scholarships that help support their education and career goals. One of the program’s strongest features is the required 12-credit-hour internship completed after finishing the 11 core RESM courses. Internship advisors work closely with students to identify placements aligned with their career interests, while internship coordinators in the Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation and Sport Management, along with career coaches in the College of Education, provide guidance on internships, job opportunities and professional development. Students also benefit from resources such as the Learning Center, which offers workshops on study strategies, speed reading and time management, as well as academic advising support for course planning each semester. The program offers flexible pathways through online, hybrid and traditional classroom formats, allowing students to tailor their educational experience to fit personal and professional needs. Coursework emphasizes leadership, operations, logistics, marketing, finance, management and social issues within recreation, sport and event organizations while helping students develop communication, collaboration and organizational skills. Students may also earn up to two certificates that complement their career interests and expand professional opportunities. Graduates are prepared for careers in community sports associations, faith-based organizations, municipal convention and visitor bureaus, federal and state recreation agencies, sport and fitness facilities, camps, special needs organizations and professional or collegiate sports organizations. Career paths may include event management, sport operations, recreation programming, facility management and tourism coordination.
