COURSE CURRICULUM

A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Energy Engineering from the University of North Texas provides students with a strong foundation in both theoretical principles and practical engineering applications, preparing them to become well-rounded professionals capable of contributing to a wide range of industries. The program emphasizes energy-focused engineering while still maintaining the core principles of mechanical engineering, allowing graduates to address modern challenges in sustainability, efficiency, and advanced system design. A key feature of the department is its access to specialized research facilities, including the Zero Energy Research Laboratory, a unique living laboratory in Texas that tests emerging sustainable technologies and materials with the goal of achieving net-zero energy consumption in buildings. Another distinctive resource is the North Texas Ambient Energy Monitoring Station, the only weather station in the nation operated by an energy engineering department, giving students exclusive access to real-time environmental data for research and analysis. The program is housed at Discovery Park, a 300-acre research facility located five miles north of the main campus and connected by a free shuttle service, which brings together laboratories, classrooms, and faculty offices to encourage collaboration, innovation, and hands-on learning. Students also benefit from strong partnerships with local industry leaders, who collaborate with the department on research projects and student initiatives, allowing learners to apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. The program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC), ensuring high academic and professional standards. Graduates of the Mechanical and Energy Engineering program are prepared for careers in diverse fields such as advanced materials design, building energy efficiency, energy management and conservation, oil, gas and nuclear energy production and distribution, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, manufacturing and product design, nanotechnology, renewable energy systems, and vibration and control engineering, equipping them with the skills needed to address critical global energy and engineering challenges.
