COURSE CURRICULUM

The Kinesiology–Fitness Leadership concentration is designed to prepare students to help individuals and communities lead more active, healthy lifestyles through structured exercise, wellness education, and physical activity programming. This specialization focuses on practical and applied knowledge in fitness and health promotion, equipping graduates with the skills needed to work directly with clients in a variety of fitness and wellness settings. Career opportunities in this field include roles such as fitness instructor, wellness coach, personal trainer, and strength and conditioning specialist, all of which involve guiding others toward improved physical health, performance, and overall well-being. In addition to immediate career pathways, many students in this concentration also choose to pursue graduate studies in related fields such as exercise physiology or sports psychology, further expanding their professional opportunities in research, clinical practice, or advanced coaching roles. The curriculum provides a strong scientific and behavioral foundation through courses that cover both the physical and psychological aspects of human movement and sport. Students may take classes such as Human Anatomy and Physiology I Laboratory, which builds an understanding of the structure and function of the human body, and Introduction to Kinesiology, which provides a broad overview of the field. Other important courses include Sociology of Sport, which examines the role of sports in society, Psychology of Sport, which explores mental factors influencing performance and motivation, and Physiological Bases of Exercise and Sport, which focuses on how the body responds and adapts to physical activity. Together, these courses combine scientific knowledge with practical application, preparing students to design effective fitness programs, support healthy behavior change, and contribute to the growing field of health and wellness through evidence-based practices and professional fitness leadership.
