COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education at University of North Texas provides students with comprehensive preparation for careers in art education, creative leadership, and community arts engagement. Offered through the College of Visual Arts and Design, the program is supported by caring and experienced faculty members dedicated to developing innovative and socially engaged art educators. Students learn in specialized facilities that include large art studios, computer laboratories, workshops, and a visual resources library designed to support both artistic and educational development. Through partnerships with local school districts, students gain valuable classroom observation and teaching experience by learning directly from practicing art educators in real educational settings. The program also offers unique collaboration opportunities with respected arts and cultural institutions such as the African American Museum, Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Crow Museum of Asian Art, Dallas Museum of Art, Kimbell Art Museum, Meadows Museum, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and the Greater Denton Arts Council. Students also benefit from access to the UNT Art Gallery, which features extensive exhibition and lending collections. Graduates are prepared for careers as art teachers at the early childhood, elementary, middle school, and high school levels, as well as positions in museums, nonprofit arts organizations, and community art programs. The program can also serve as a foundation for advanced study in museum education and related fields. Coursework includes Art Education: Foundations, which introduces students to the field of art education; Elementary and Secondary Art Education Practices, focusing on child and adolescent creativity and classroom teaching methods; Global Aesthetics, exploring the relationship between art and culture across societies; Computer Art Applications, emphasizing digital tools in visual arts education; and Inquiry and Dialogue about Art, which develops critical discussion and interpretation skills related to art and education.
