COURSE CURRICULUM

The UNT Organ Church Music Performance program is supported by highly accomplished faculty members who hold credentials from some of the leading organ programs in the United States and Europe. In addition to being respected educators, the organ faculty are also recognized performers, researchers, and composers with strong professional reputations in the music world. Students benefit from instruction by faculty members who are nationally and internationally known performers, some of whom have performed with prestigious ensembles such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, Minnesota Opera Orchestra, and Dallas Opera Orchestra. As part of one of the nation’s most comprehensive colleges of music, students also gain opportunities to meet renowned music scholars and artists through specialized lectures, performances, and academic events hosted across the college. The university’s location near Dallas and Fort Worth provides valuable performance opportunities with organizations such as the Dallas Bach Society, Texas Camerata, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Opera Orchestra, and regional orchestras in Irving, Plano, and Richardson. Students also study and perform in exceptional facilities including the Murchison Performing Arts Center, home to the Winspear Performance Hall and the Lyric Theater, both known for their state-of-the-art acoustics and professional rehearsal environments. The College of Music attracts talented musicians from around the world and maintains a rich tradition of excellence in performance and music education. Graduates of the Organ Church Music Performance program are prepared for careers as church musicians, soloists, chamber musicians, orchestra or professional band members, studio musicians for film and television, and private music instructors. Alumni from UNT performance programs have achieved distinguished positions in major orchestras and ensembles across the United States and internationally. Coursework in the program includes Aural Skills IV, Organ studies, Organ Literature and Pedagogy, Keyboard Senior Recital Capstone, and Seminar in Church Music, all designed to strengthen performance ability, teaching skills, musicianship, sacred music leadership, and professional preparation for careers in church and concert music environments.
