COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in Sculpture at the University of North Texas is a comprehensive studio-based program that develops students’ technical skills, conceptual thinking, and professional artistic practice in three-dimensional art. Faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized artists and scholars who guide students through an intensive learning environment supported by a strong visiting artist program and opportunities for internships, helping bridge academic study with real-world professional experience. Students work in expansive, well-equipped facilities that include studios for woodworking, metal fabrication, mold-making and casting, digital fabrication, soft sculpture, outdoor installation work, and experimental project spaces, allowing for both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary, technology-driven approaches to sculpture. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on creation while encouraging critical inquiry, experimentation, and iterative development of ideas through critique and mentorship. A Living-Learning Community further enhances the student experience by fostering collaboration among art and design majors who live and work closely together on campus. Students also benefit from UNT’s location in the Dallas–Fort Worth region, which provides access to galleries, public art opportunities, and a vibrant cultural landscape, as well as opportunities to exhibit work both on campus and in local professional venues. The program is part of the College of Visual Arts and Design, a nationally accredited and highly regarded institution known for maintaining high academic and professional standards in visual arts education. Career pathways for graduates include roles as fine artists producing public installations, commissioned works, and gallery-based sculpture, as well as freelance studio practitioners. Additional opportunities exist in commercial and applied fields such as digital sculpting, prop making, fabrication, exhibition design, and installation work. Graduates are also prepared for technical roles such as studio technicians, or for continued study in graduate programs, including MFA degrees in sculpture or related studio disciplines.
