COURSE CURRICULUM
The Studio Art B.F.A. with a concentration in Printmaking at the University of North Texas offers a professionally oriented and studio-intensive education that blends technical mastery, conceptual development, and real-world experience in contemporary and traditional print practices. The program actively collaborates with regional print businesses, giving students valuable industry exposure and helping them build professional networks that support career development beyond the university. Students are also engaged in an active creative community through the Printmaking Association of North Texas Students (PANTS), which organizes exhibitions, visiting artist events, field trips, portfolio exchanges, fundraisers, and community outreach activities, all of which enhance professional engagement and peer learning. The College of Visual Arts and Design provides extensive opportunities for exhibition, including venues such as the Cora Stafford Gallery and Paul Voertman Gallery, allowing students to regularly present their work in curated and juried settings throughout their studies. Studio facilities are a major strength of the program, offering more than 5,000 square feet of dedicated printmaking space equipped with etching and relief presses, lithography presses, screen-print exposure units, and extensive lithography stone collections, along with access to digital print labs, fabrication tools, paper-making studios, woodshops, and sculpture facilities for interdisciplinary exploration. Faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized artists who mentor students in technical processes, conceptual rigor, and professional studio practices while encouraging independent artistic research and experimentation. The curriculum covers a wide range of processes including relief printing, screenprinting, intaglio, lithography, monotype, and historical print studies, ensuring both foundational knowledge and contemporary relevance. Graduates are prepared for careers as professional fine artists, commercial designers, print technicians, educators, and production specialists in print shops or creative industries, as well as for advanced study in graduate programs. The program emphasizes adaptability, creative thinking, and professional readiness, positioning students for diverse opportunities in both artistic and applied printmaking fields.
