COURSE CURRICULUM

The Studio Art B.F.A. with a concentration in Ceramics at the University of North Texas is supported by nationally and internationally recognized faculty who are active in leading organizations such as the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts and the International Academy of Ceramics, giving students direct exposure to contemporary developments in the field of ceramics and studio art. The program is housed in state-of-the-art facilities, including a 22,600-square-foot Art Annex dedicated to ceramics and a larger Art Building featuring studios, critique spaces, galleries, labs and digital fabrication resources. Students have access to advanced equipment such as 3D printers, clay printers, ram presses and industrial kilns, allowing them to combine traditional ceramic processes with modern digital production techniques. The curriculum emphasizes both artistic development and technical mastery, with coursework covering hand-building, wheel-throwing, mold-making, surface design, glaze formulation and kiln firing processes, alongside more experimental and contemporary approaches to form, function and material exploration. Students are encouraged to participate in the Clay Guild, exhibitions, visiting artist workshops and national conferences, which provide opportunities for networking, critique and professional growth. Career pathways for graduates include independent studio practice as ceramic artists, teaching at schools or universities, working in galleries or craft-based industries, and participating in production ceramics or entrepreneurial art ventures.
