COURSE CURRICULUM

A Fashion Design degree offers students the opportunity to combine creativity, technical skill, innovation, and collaboration while preparing for careers in the fast-moving global fashion industry. One of the most rewarding aspects of the program is seeing original designs transformed from concepts into finished garments that are worn by others and featured in presentations, fashion shows, or editorial projects, creating a strong sense of accomplishment and professional pride. Fashion design is also highly collaborative, allowing students to work closely with peers, instructors, stylists, and industry professionals in a teamwork-oriented environment that reflects real industry practices. At the College of Visual Arts and Design, students learn to create sustainable fashion products and manufacturing processes, preparing them to address modern industry challenges related to environmental responsibility, ethical production, and resource management. The program goes beyond artistic design by teaching students how to research fashion trends, understand production methods, solve creative and technical problems, and identify materials and suppliers needed for garment construction and product development. Students develop skills in design thinking, illustration, patternmaking, garment construction, textiles, and fashion analysis while learning how to balance creativity with functionality and market demands. The program’s strong reputation is reflected in the accomplishments of its students and alumni, many of whom gain early industry recognition by participating in prestigious national and international competitions and events such as Dallas Fashion Group International’s Career Day and Project Runway. These opportunities allow students to showcase their talent, build professional connections, and gain valuable exposure to employers and fashion professionals. Overall, the Fashion Design degree equips students with the artistic vision, technical expertise, sustainability knowledge, and collaborative experience needed to pursue careers in fashion design, apparel production, creative direction, sustainable fashion, costume design, fashion entrepreneurship, and other areas of the fashion and creative industries.
