COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting at University of North Texas is designed to prepare students with the technical expertise, ethical foundation, and strategic thinking skills needed for successful careers in accounting and business. The accounting program has earned national recognition, ranking among the top 50 undergraduate accounting programs in the United States according to the Public Accounting Report’s 2018 rankings. The program was also ranked 17th nationally for faculty-to-student ratio, 12th in the West, 46th nationally overall, and 7th in Texas by BestValueSchools.org. Graduates pursue careers in private corporations, public accounting firms, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations, with many advancing into leadership positions at Fortune 500 companies, national accounting firms, and entrepreneurial ventures. Career opportunities include certified public accountant, corporate accountant, forensic accountant, internal auditor, and tax planner. The curriculum combines business fundamentals with specialized accounting knowledge through courses such as Cost Accounting, which explores manufacturing operations, budgeting, standard costs, and cost analysis; Accounting Systems, which focuses on accounting information systems, database management, and system security; Auditing — Professional Responsibilities, which covers auditing standards, ethics, audit evidence, and reporting; and Introduction to Data Mining, where students learn data exploration, modeling, and business decision-making using modern analytical tools. Overall, the program provides students with a strong academic and practical foundation for long-term success in accounting and related business fields.
