COURSE CURRICULUM

The University of North Texas Spanish program offers extensive academic support, cultural engagement and professional development opportunities that help students achieve fluency and build valuable multicultural skills. The Department of Spanish provides multiple ways for students to test and earn academic credit, demonstrate proficiency, waive language requirements or fulfill undergraduate and graduate world language requirements. Students can connect with fellow Spanish majors and strengthen leadership and networking skills through organizations such as Sigma Delta Pi, the Spanish Club, Mate Club and Folklórico. The department’s Language Lab supports language learning through modern technology including self-study software, internet resources, multilingual audio and video media, presentation tools and interactive learning materials that enhance speaking, listening and comprehension abilities. Tutoring services are also available to help students with assignments, exam preparation and conversational practice, creating a supportive learning environment for language development at every level. Scholarships funded by generous donors and professional development initiatives help students pursue their academic goals while reducing financial barriers. Students can further strengthen their language proficiency and cultural understanding through study abroad programs in Peru, Costa Rica and Spain, gaining firsthand international experience in Spanish-speaking communities. Graduates of the program pursue careers in education, business, healthcare, journalism, social services and international relations, while many students combine Spanish with majors such as business, music, biology or journalism to expand career opportunities. Courses such as Introduction to Hispanic Literature, Advanced Conversation for Non-Native Speakers, Spanish Phonetics and Pronunciation, Latin American Culture Through Film, Survey of Spanish Literature and Women in Contemporary Spanish Cinema help students build advanced communication skills while exploring the rich cultural and literary traditions of the Spanish-speaking world.
