COURSE CURRICULUM

The Public Health program at University of North Texas prepares students to improve community health and address major healthcare challenges through prevention, education, research, and policy development. Students learn how to identify, prevent, and solve public health problems while exploring topics such as epidemiology, environmental health, ethics, social justice, and health policy. Courses including Introduction to Public Health, Environmental Health, Public Health and Health Policy, Ethics in Science, Social Justice and Behavioral Foundations in Public Health, and Epidemiological Concepts and Methods for Public Health help students develop analytical thinking, communication, leadership, and evidence-based decision-making skills. Because of the program’s broad and flexible focus, graduates can pursue careers across many sectors of healthcare and public service. Opportunities may include working for hospitals, health insurance companies, government agencies, foundations, nonprofit organizations, community health initiatives, and public policy or research think tanks operating at state, national, or international levels. Students may also continue into graduate programs in public health, healthcare administration, epidemiology, medicine, or related disciplines. Scholarships are available through the College of Public Affairs and Health Services and the Department of Rehabilitation & Health Services, helping students further support their academic and professional goals. Located in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, the nation’s fifth-largest media market, UNT provides students with outstanding access to internships and professional networking opportunities at advertising agencies, media companies, corporations, nonprofit organizations, and public relations firms. The Mayborn School combines classroom instruction with extensive hands-on learning through cutting-edge multimedia labs, modern classrooms, and student-run media organizations such as North Texas Daily, NTTV, and NT Daily Radio.
