COURSE CURRICULUM

A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Political Science at University of North Texas provides students with a strong understanding of government, law, public policy, international affairs, political behavior, and global issues while developing critical thinking, research, writing, and analytical skills that are highly valued across many professions. Students can specialize in areas such as American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Political Theory, while also exploring interdisciplinary topics like peace and conflict studies, political institutions, race and ethnic politics, democracy, elections, international human rights, legislative behavior, and political campaigning. UNT’s faculty members are active researchers and recognized experts who involve students in meaningful academic and research opportunities, including assistantships, conference presentations, internships, and advanced research methods training. The department also offers unique experiential learning opportunities such as the highly respected Moot Court program, which develops legal research, oral advocacy, and brief-writing skills, and the study abroad program in The Hague, an international center for law and justice. Students can participate in organizations including Pi Sigma Alpha and Phi Alpha Delta to build professional networks and leadership experience. The department also oversees the Peace Studies program and the Castleberry Peace Institute, the Southwest’s only peace studies research center at a four-year university. Graduates pursue careers in politics, law, government, teaching, public administration, nonprofit organizations, diplomacy, policy analysis, and advocacy, while many continue to graduate or law school. Courses may include The U.S. Supreme Court, International Ethics, Revolution and Political Violence, The Legislative Process, American Intergovernmental Relations, and Political Economy of Race, Gender and Immigration.
