COURSE CURRICULUM

The College of Music at the University of North Texas is recognized for its strong commitment to innovation and excellence in music education, having been named one of 10 distinguished colleges and universities by the Yamaha Institution of Excellence program. This recognition reflects the college’s dedication to advancing the study and practice of music at a high professional level. Students benefit from exceptional facilities, including the Murchison Performing Arts Center, which houses the Winspear Performance Hall and the Lyric Theater, as well as the Music Building, which contains the Recital Hall and the Voertman Concert Hall. Alumni include highly accomplished individuals such as Duain Wolfe, chorus director of the Chicago Symphony Chorus; Norah Jones, multiple Grammy Award-winning vocalist; Anthony Molinaro, Naumburg International Piano Competition winner; Christopher Adkins, principal cellist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra; and Keith Carlock, drummer for Sting and Steely Dan. Coursework includes Aural Skills I, Music as Communication, Music Cultures of the World, History of Jazz, Science and Technology of Musical Sound, and Theory I, all of which contribute to a comprehensive and rigorous musical education.
