COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Studies degree highlights an interdisciplinary approach that draws knowledge from a wide range of academic fields, including Political Science, History, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, Philosophy, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, and even specialized programs such as International Business certificates and Women’s and Gender Studies. This broad academic integration allows students to explore global issues from multiple perspectives, making the program highly flexible and academically diverse. Because of its interdisciplinary structure, the program offers five areas of concentration that help students become more competitive in the job market while also allowing them to take advanced courses across different disciplines and prepare for graduate-level studies in various international fields. Students also have the option to earn an academic certificate in Global Perspectives, which helps strengthen cross-cultural communication skills that are essential for professional environments and global careers. The program further enhances learning through study abroad opportunities coordinated by the university’s Study Abroad office, allowing students to gain international experience in regions such as Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Latin America for a semester or an entire academic year. In addition, student organizations like the Model International Organization and the Sigma Iota Rho honor society provide platforms for discussions, lectures, and events focused on international issues, helping students build leadership and networking skills. Graduates of this program can pursue careers in international business as well as in major global and governmental organizations such as the American Red Cross, CIA, Environmental Protection Agency, National Security Agency, United Nations, U.S. Departments of Commerce, Defense, or State, and the World Health Organization. The curriculum includes courses such as Introduction to International Studies, Peoples and Cultures of Europe, Latin American Philosophy, Eastern Religion and the Environment, Modern Africa, and Global Development: Issues and Challenges, all designed to build strong global awareness and analytical skills for international careers.
