COURSE CURRICULUM

The French degree program at the University of North Texas provides students with strong language proficiency, cultural understanding, and global communication skills while preparing them for a variety of international and professional opportunities. The program works closely with the Study Abroad office to offer multiple opportunities for international study and work experiences, allowing students to immerse themselves in French-speaking environments and gain firsthand exposure to the language and culture. These experiences help students strengthen fluency, cultural awareness, and confidence in real-world communication situations. Students also benefit from activities designed to enhance language practice and cultural understanding, including conversation groups, film series, and other interactive learning opportunities that encourage engagement with French language and culture outside the classroom. The World Language Learning Center further supports student success by providing access to advanced learning resources such as 80 computer workstations, self-study software programs, multilingual audio and video materials, and presentation equipment that help improve language proficiency and communication skills. Additional support services at UNT include the Career Center, Learning Center, and professional academic advisors, all of which help students explore internships, career opportunities, and practical experiences related to their major. Studying French also helps students develop broader intellectual and professional abilities, including analytical thinking, interpretation, communication, and cultural awareness. Learning a world language can strengthen performance in other academic areas such as English and mathematics while improving preparation for graduate and professional entrance exams. Graduates with a French degree can pursue careers in fields such as banking, education, health services, intelligence and law enforcement, journalism, marketing, nonprofit organizations, social services, and the travel industry. Alumni have found employment with international companies, airlines, law firms, universities, and school districts, demonstrating the versatility and value of multilingual skills in today’s global workforce. Coursework in the program includes classes such as Writing in French: Style and Technique, France Today, Advanced French Grammar and Composition, French for Science and Technology, Advanced Readings in French, and Advanced French Conversation. These courses help students strengthen advanced writing, speaking, reading, grammar, and cultural interpretation skills while preparing them for professional communication and global career opportunities.
