COURSE CURRICULUM

The undergraduate Chemistry programs at University of North Texas are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in chemical science while also offering flexible pathways that align with different academic and career goals. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is certified by the American Chemical Society and is primarily intended for students who plan to pursue advanced graduate studies or seek employment in private industry or government laboratories. This degree emphasizes rigorous scientific training and prepares students for professional roles in research, development, and applied chemistry fields. In contrast, the Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry offers a more flexible, liberal arts–oriented approach, allowing students to tailor their coursework based on their career aspirations. Within the B.A. program, students can choose from three primary tracks: preparation for graduate school in chemistry, preparation for careers in the chemical industry, or preparation for pre-professional allied health programs such as medicine, dentistry, or pharmacy. Additionally, students who are interested in education can pursue a B.A. in Chemistry with a teaching certification, which prepares them for careers as secondary school science teachers. Beyond classroom instruction, the chemistry programs at UNT provide extensive opportunities for hands-on learning and research. Undergraduate students can participate in independent research projects under the guidance of faculty mentors, gaining experience in laboratory techniques, experimental design, and scientific analysis. Many students contribute to faculty research and have co-authored published scientific papers, demonstrating the program’s strong emphasis on undergraduate research engagement. This research experience also helps students build competitive profiles for admission into top graduate schools and professional programs.
