COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (B.A.A.S.) program at University of North Texas is designed to provide maximum flexibility and personalized support for nontraditional students completing their bachelor’s degree. Each student is paired with an academic advisor who helps create a customized degree plan focused on completing the remaining requirements needed for graduation. The program allows students to transfer up to 90 of the 120 credit hours required for the degree from approved institutions, making it an efficient option for transfer students, working professionals, veterans, and active-duty military personnel. Career outcomes for B.A.A.S. graduates are highly diverse, reflecting the varied backgrounds and goals of the students enrolled in the program. Some students pursue the degree for career advancement in their current field, while others use it to transition into new careers or prepare for graduate education. Graduates work in business, nonprofit organizations, state and local government agencies, and industries connected to their technical or occupational specializations. The curriculum combines practical and professional development courses that strengthen leadership, research, communication, and decision-making skills. Courses such as Fundamentals of Inquiry and Discovery teach students how to evaluate information, conduct research, analyze data, and address ethical issues in social science research. Managing a 21st Century Career serves as a capstone course where students integrate academic and technical knowledge while developing professional identity and career strategies. Occupational Specialization courses allow students to apply previous technical or military training toward their degree, while Professional Development Concentration Courses help students strengthen expertise in areas connected to their career goals. Additional coursework such as Pathways to Civic Engagement encourages students to develop community awareness and leadership skills for active participation in society.
