COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Science in Fire Protection Engineering at University of New Haven requires 30 graduate credits and provides advanced technical education in fire dynamics, hazard analysis, fire modeling, industrial fire protection, and engineering-based safety design. In the Thesis track, students complete Thesis I and Thesis II along with three electives, enabling in-depth research under faculty supervision. Elective options provide interdisciplinary specialization opportunities in areas such as Chemical Process Safety, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Advanced Computer-Aided Drafting, Emergency Management, Fire Chemistry, Fire Scene Investigation, Fire and Building Codes, Fire Scene Reconstruction, Combustion Engineering, Computer-Aided Engineering, and Heat Transfer. The curriculum integrates engineering analysis, computational simulation, risk management, and regulatory compliance with practical applications in industrial facilities, smart buildings, manufacturing plants, laboratories, and energy systems. Students develop the ability to conduct fire-related experiments and simulations, solve real-world fire protection engineering challenges, justify solutions using fire codes and engineering standards, and communicate technical findings effectively to regulatory authorities and industry professionals. Graduates are prepared for careers in fire protection engineering consulting, industrial safety, building systems design, risk assessment, code compliance, emergency management, and research and development within the rapidly growing fire safety and protection industry.
