COURSE CURRICULUM

The MS in Construction Engineering and Management is a specialized graduate program designed to provide students with advanced technical knowledge and managerial skills required for successful careers in the construction and infrastructure industries. The curriculum combines construction engineering principles, project management practices, sustainability concepts, and technology-driven solutions to prepare students for leadership roles in modern construction projects. The program includes 9 credits of required courses that provide essential training in construction estimating and scheduling, construction accounting and finance, and construction project management. These courses help students develop skills in budgeting, cost control, project planning, scheduling, and financial decision-making within construction environments. In addition to the required courses, students complete 21 credits of electives selected from areas such as Construction Management, Sustainability, Construction Engineering, and other advanced civil engineering topics. Students must complete at least one course from the Construction Management category, which includes subjects such as construction engineering methods, construction law and claims, and construction risk management. They must also complete at least one course from the Construction Engineering category, covering advanced topics such as concrete technology, bridge inspection, building inspection and maintenance, infrastructure inspection, Building Information Modeling (BIM), advanced computer-aided drafting, construction inspection and monitoring, and computer applications in civil engineering. The sustainability electives introduce students to sustainable engineering, green building design, and sustainable urban planning, preparing them to address environmental and infrastructure challenges in modern construction projects. Additional elective opportunities include research projects, engineering entrepreneurship, seminars, independent studies, and thesis options that allow students to pursue specialized interests or research goals. Through this combination of coursework and applied learning, students gain expertise in construction planning, engineering analysis, project monitoring, software applications, safety standards, and industry regulations. Graduates are prepared for professional careers as Construction Managers, Project Engineers, BIM Specialists, Construction Estimators, Infrastructure Inspectors, Project Controllers, and researchers in private industry, government agencies, consulting firms, and academic institutions. Overall, the program equips students with the technical, managerial, and analytical skills necessary to lead complex construction and infrastructure projects successfully.
