COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program at University of New Haven requires 36 graduate credits and is designed to prepare students for leadership, management, and administrative roles within healthcare systems, hospitals, public health organizations, and related institutions. The program is structured around 33 credits of required core courses and a 3-credit restricted elective, providing a comprehensive foundation in healthcare operations, policy, finance, leadership, and organizational management. The core curriculum begins with Introduction to U.S. Healthcare System, which provides an overview of how healthcare is structured, financed, and delivered in the United States, followed by Management of Healthcare Organizations, which focuses on leadership principles and operational management in healthcare settings. Students also study Management Information Systems in Healthcare, emphasizing the use of technology and data systems in clinical and administrative decision-making, and Financial Management of Healthcare Organizations, which covers budgeting, revenue cycles, and financial planning. Additional required courses include Law and Public Health, Healthcare Ethics, Statistics in Healthcare Administration, Communication in Healthcare, Healthcare Leadership, and Strategy and Innovation in Healthcare Organizations, each contributing to the development of well-rounded administrative and analytical competencies. The program culminates in either a Healthcare Administration Capstone or an Internship, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world healthcare environments through research or professional practice. Students also select one elective course from areas such as healthcare reimbursement systems, project management, healthcare economics and finance, health policy and politics, population health management, human resource planning, special topics, research seminar, or independent study, enabling specialization aligned with career goals.
