COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology is a 42-credit graduate program designed to apply psychological principles to workplace behavior in order to improve organizational effectiveness, employee well-being, and productivity. The program combines strong theoretical foundations with applied training in organizational psychology, preparing students for careers in human resources, organizational consulting, applied research, leadership development, and related professional fields. The core curriculum consists of 24 credits covering essential areas such as statistics for psychological science, research methods, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, psychological testing and measurement, advanced seminar study, and contemporary issues in industrial and organizational psychology, with a choice between industrial relations or worker well-being as a foundational focus. Beyond the core, students complete 18 credits through one of several program options, including a thesis track, an internship or practicum track, or a structured elective track with a comprehensive examination, all selected in consultation with a program coordinator based on individual academic and career goals. Within this structure, students may also pursue a concentration in Workplace-Human Resources Psychology, which provides focused training in training and development in organizations and performance management processes, along with additional coursework chosen from areas such as career counseling, multicultural workplace issues, employment law, group dynamics, interviewing, communication and influence in organizations, workplace motivation and attitudes, and negotiation and mediation. This concentration strengthens applied HR-related psychological skills and prepares students to address real-world organizational challenges involving employee development, communication, and workplace behavior. Overall, the program is designed to produce professionals who can integrate psychological theory with practical workplace applications, using evidence-based methods to improve employee performance, organizational systems, and workplace relationships across diverse industries and settings.
