COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology is a graduate program focused on applying psychological science to improve workplace effectiveness, employee well-being, and organizational performance. It emphasizes the study of human behavior in organizational settings and prepares students to address key workplace challenges such as motivation, leadership, team dynamics, recruitment and selection, performance management, training and development, job analysis, compensation, conflict management, and organizational change. The program is designed to develop professionals who can use evidence-based psychological principles to enhance productivity and satisfaction across diverse organizational environments, including private corporations, government agencies, healthcare systems, nonprofit organizations, and consulting firms, as well as those who may pursue doctoral-level education. A total of 42 graduate credits is required, including 24 credits of core coursework and 18 credits of advanced study chosen in consultation with a program coordinator based on the student’s academic and career goals. Students may complete these credits through a thesis option, internship or practicum, or approved elective pathway, allowing flexibility in professional preparation. Core courses typically include organizational behavior, industrial psychology, research methods, statistics for psychological science, psychological testing and measurement, and contemporary issues in industrial and organizational psychology, along with options such as industrial relations or worker well-being. Students may specialize in the STEM-designated Talent Analytics concentration, which integrates psychology with data science and focuses on sourcing, analyzing, and visualizing workforce data to improve talent management decisions. This concentration develops skills in descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics, data visualization, and data-driven decision-making using tools from both business analytics and psychology. Courses include business analytics, data visualization and communication, data mining for business intelligence, and talent analytics applications, preparing graduates to apply advanced analytical techniques to workforce planning and organizational strategy. Overall, the program produces professionals capable of combining psychological insight with data-driven methods to support strategic human resource management and organizational success.
