COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Sport Management combines a strong business education with specialized sport industry training to prepare students for leadership careers in professional sports, collegiate athletics, sport marketing, media, event management, and related fields. The curriculum integrates the University Core Curriculum, the Pompea College of Business Core, major requirements, restricted electives, and free electives to provide students with both broad academic knowledge and industry-specific expertise. The prescribed University Core Curriculum strengthens skills in mathematics, business analytics, economics, globalization, critical thinking, and social issues in sport, helping students understand the social, economic, and global dimensions of the sport industry. The Pompea College of Business Core develops foundational business competencies in accounting, finance, marketing, management, ethics, business law, analytics, and organizational leadership while also preparing students for professional communication and strategic decision-making in business environments. The sport management major requirements focus specifically on the operations and management of sport organizations and events. Students study topics such as governance and legal issues in sport, consumer behavior and sport marketing, revenue generation, sport finance, event and venue management, and the execution of sport events. The program also includes an internship experience that provides hands-on professional training and exposure to real-world sport industry operations. A capstone course further allows students to integrate business knowledge and sport management skills through practical event planning and execution experiences. Restricted elective options allow students to specialize in areas aligned with their career interests, including digital communication, public relations, sport analytics, sales, branding, media production, front office operations, athletic administration, negotiation, and sport facility management. Through coursework, team projects, internships, and experiential learning opportunities, students develop analytical abilities, communication skills, ethical decision-making, leadership, teamwork, and technical expertise specific to the sport industry. The program also emphasizes diversity, globalization, and professional collaboration within modern sport organizations.
